Breaking Down Barriers

Kicks is managed centrally by the Premier League Charitable Fund and is delivered locally by professional football clubs. Watford FC's CSE Trust deliver on behalf on Watford FC. The programme is funded by Sport England and the Premier League. Local partnerships include the local authority/council and the Safer Neighbourhood Police Teams. Through using the power of football and other sports, Kicks aims to create safer, stronger and more respectful communities through the development of young people’s potential. The session include several activities with the flexibility to change to cater for the young people in attendance. Some example of the activities delivered are; football, dance, table tennis as well as generic youth club activities. The Trust now also offer 'Mini Kicks' for youngsters in school years 1 - 6, full details below.

The scheme is designed to:

  • Engage young people (aged 11-19) in a range of constructive activities
  • Create routes into education, training and employment
  • Encourage volunteering within projects and throughout the target neighbourhoods
  • Break down barriers between the police and young people
  • Reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in the targeted neighbourhoods
  • Increase the playing, coaching and officiating opportunities for participants
